Papermoon

Past Sunday we went to a special Papermoon photo shoot at Cherrymuffin Studios ... We had tons of fun, met some friends and are truly happy with the results. As we barely ever take pictures as a couple, those shots are really special to us.

Evil Dots

Dress, hat and cropped jacket all from the 1940s ...

Dress from the 1950s... Purse probably from the 40s.

dress, shoes, purse and cropped jacket are from the 40s ... beret is modern, brooch from the 50s

I don't like spots ... When you mostly wear true vintage you start to fear dots, pin dots, POLKA dots, DOTS, because this is the print for the so called 50s fashion you find on cheap repros. So if you are a lover of the truest of the true - at a special point - you start to avoid dots of any kind, just not to look repro. Silly isn't it?! Happened to me and as I heard, happened to quite a few vintage lovers more.
But to be true, dots are a true to era print. You really find more then a few true 1950s dresses (where the dots-thing got inspired from) and for sure you find some dots in 40s fashion ...
The past year I came across a few dresses ... with dots. With all three I went through a struggle, if I could deal with the hated print. Everytime I decided that the print shouldn't be an issue to me. The fun thing about those three actually is, that I was so lost into thinking about dots - that I totally igonred the fact that I bought navy with white dots, navy with white-red-ish dots and again ... navy with white dots.
The dress on the bottom is my favourite out of the dot dress family - I was just able to get my hands on her, as a friend didn't snagged her up earlier ... tatataaa .... because she doesn't like to wear dots anymore. Lucky me.
Dotilicious. Gimme more.

Pictures aare all taken from my Instagram, as I ran out of pictures.

Steaming Surprise

1940a shrug: Fräullein Anders Shop, Berlin // 40s dress: Kleidermarkt // shoes: modern, flea market // repro clam shell purse: Original Crochet-by-Q // 40s tilt hat: thrifted in the USA

A few weeks ago I purchased this dress at one of my Berlin vintage bargain honey holes ... I was already a little roomy when I tried it on ... But I thought it was ok. I especially liked that the spots aren't white but slightly red ... You can't see this in the photos.
Whatever, I took it home and the other day, I turned this wrinkled little ball it was, into a dress. Well surprise, through steaming the dress got almost a size bigger and 10 cm longer.  I still like it ... what do you think?!

Distraction

What I wore to the flea market a few weeks ago ... 50s blazer: thrifted in the USA // 50s dress: Lucky Dry Goods: Seattle // 90s booties: thrifted // 50s-60s purse: eBay // 40s-50s hat: bought from a friend ...

I'm so sorry for my absence from blogging and reading blogs. The past weeks, no, months I got more and more into reading news websites and political articles ... My vintage lusts I feed through Instagram right now. The huge changes the world as we know it is going through is eating up a lot of my interest right now ... hopefully I will be back reading more blogs just for fun and joy of vintage fashion but right now I have the feeling I need to be informed with the mostly sad news of this world we live in. Maybe the election in the US is over but the big German elections in Germany are coming in 2017 ... and a new right winged party that is as terrifiyng as President-elect Trump, that scares the hell out of me ... I don't want this place to be a political blog, so I don't go  ....
I will be still here posting outfits for now.

The 1940s Does 1990s Dress

1940s coat: flea market // 40s silk dress: Kleidermarkt Berlin // vintage gobelin purse: flea market // shoes: Clarks // 40s hat: Goodwill ...

Almost a month ago I came across this handmade pale pink 40s dress. I struggled with it right away but I also fell strangely in love with it ... It's made from silk, I love the black and grey print, I love it's simplicity ... But  - hahahaaaahahaaaa - why does it look like a dress from the 90s on me?! Doesn't it? What do you think?!

Getting Somewhere ...

Wearing  ... 50s blazer: Fräullein Anders Shop, Berlin // early 40s dress: thrifted years back //  40s shoes: eBay // 50s purse: flea market // 40s hat: flea market // Lauscha grape brooch: flea market

Finally my hat collection is getting somewhere. This year I really found some pieces I was longing for so badly and most of them I found this summer starting with our trip to the US. From there I send home a huge box with safely packed hats from the 40s and 50s ... most of them need a little TLC but all are wearable and unique. Shortly after our return from the States I came across a couple of late 30s hats (read here) at one of my regular sellers stall at one of my regular Sunday's flea markets - I got both for less than a song. They were kind of dirty, covered with stains - so I had to brush the dirt off both hats for hours. Now they look fine.
The next weekend we went to a big flea market in Leipzig. There I found another motherload of vintage hats that I ever wanted ... This huge black felt beret from the 40s is probably homemade and is one of them.
I have to confess, my collection got a little out of hand, and I had to cut down, as hats need to be stored with love, care and a little room. During the past months I already started to sell some of my vintage hats on my tiny Etsy Store and on the Vintage Market.  I just can't keep them all.

The Hat

modern coat: traditional turkish store // 40s shrug: flea market // 40s dress: Mankii Vintage Berlin // 40s shoes: from a friend // vintage purse: flea market // late 1930s felt hat: flea market // vintage lauscha grape brooch: flea market

This late 30s hat is kind of the holy gral of hats to me.
It's almost easy to find half hats from the 50s 'all the time' but  every kind of hat that takes more room is so hard to find  -  and so difficult to store properly. For sure these are a few reasons, why we actually find so little fancier and bigger hats from past times that many. At a special point in their exictance they got squished and deformed, if they didn't end up as moth dinner. So I'm happy asa frog to have found this one ...
Also wearing true 40s brogues, I bought from a friend who also has to deal with large wide feet ... So once in a while we swap vintage food wear. This was the first time I took tehm for a spin. Don't they go perfectly with the hat?! ... Yesterday I won a purse on eBay which I hope turns this bordeaux double into a tripple set.
